Mani Ratnam’s Ravanan received mixed reviews from kollywood circle and the bollywood version Raavan bombed at the box office. So he is taking no chances with his next venture, Kalki's Ponniyin Selvan. Only the best will be approved by Mani Ratnam in terms of cast and crew and he has even roped in prolific writer Naan kavavul fame Jayamohan to help in the script department.
Since Ponniyin Selvan is going to be a big – budget epic adventure, he has turned to Ulaganayagan for advice as the latter has some experience in the same genre since he worked on Marudha Nayagam. The director wished to obtain a few hundred horses for the shoot and Kamal suggested he get them from France as he himself used well–trained horses from the same place.
Kamal also recommended some writers- Poet Puviarasu and Ira. Murugan to the director to help with the script and Mani was grateful for the timely help from a fellow genius.
